Jensen Beach Real Estate

Jensen Beach is a quaint, seaside community located along the scenic Indian River. As part of Florida’s Treasure Coast, the town is rich in both history and beauty and consistently ranks as one of the “Top Places to Retire” in the United States. Real estate in Jensen Beach ranges in price from $160,000 for a two-bedroom condo to more than $5 million for an expansive oceanfront estate. Many of the luxury real estate properties are situated on Hutchinson Island, a barrier island that stretches between Martin and St. Lucie Counties. Hutchinson Island boasts the most popular public beach, Jensen Sea Turtle Beach, a beach well-known for its large loggerhead turtles who return to their nesting spots in the sand each spring. Sailfish Point, also located on Hutchinson Island, is an exclusive, oceanfront community that features a Jack Nicklaus signature design golf course, a marina and yacht club, tennis facilities, and a grand clubhouse. Much to the delight of its residents, Jensen Beach does not receive constant attention and accolades like its neighboring cities in Palm Beach County; in fact, the town is perhaps one of South Florida’s best kept secrets. Residents appreciate the small town ambiance and charm.

Jensen Beach is characterized by its enchanting downtown streets, unique boutiques, outdoor cafes, and eclectic galleries. Self-proclaimed foodies frequent local establishments such as Jan’s Place, Conchy Joe’s Seafood, Mulligan’s Beach House, Crawdaddy’s, and Dolphin Bar and Shrimp House. Because Jensen Beach is so close to Stuart and Palm City, residents have the convenient amenities of staple stores such as Target, Costco, Walmart, and the like. Moreover, these neighboring communities boast a myriad of attractions, restaurants, golf courses, and entertainment venues.

John Jensen and James Hutchinson are respectively credited as the founders of Jensen Beach and Hutchinson Island. Originally, the region was inhabited by the Native American Aris Tribe. After disease and warfare, the area remained mostly vacant until the Spanish Governor granted the land to James Hutchinson who built a small oceanfront resort on the island. Unfortunately, pirates pillaged the coastal retreat and, for many years, the land was unoccupied. After reading about the digestive benefits of pineapple from Captain Thomas Richards and believing it was a lucrative business opportunity, John Jensen began cultivating more acreage for this succulent citrus crop. Though pineapple is no longer grown in Jensen Beach, it remains the town’s symbol---a fitting one considering the town’s genuine hospitality and friendliness. The town hosts an annual Pineapple Festival to pay tribute to its heritage and to showcase its beauty. Each year, the festival features local and national bands, arts and crafts, street performers, midway rides, and a Bahamian Market.

Families residing in Jensen Beach are pleased to send their children to top-rated schools such as Felix Williams Elementary, Jensen Beach Elementary, Stuart Middle, and Jensen Beach High School. Governed by the Martin County School District, these schools consistently strive to create learning environments conducive to academic excellence. As an alternative, Martin County also has specialized schools and charter schools including Riverbend Academy, Environmental Studies Center, Willoughby Learning Center, Clark Advanced Learning Center, and Hope Center for Autism. Private school options in the area include the Pine School, Trinity United Methodist School, Morningside Academy, and Community Christian Academy.
